A distinction.

One of the things that spurred the redesign was that I wasn't liking the association that I found I'd unconsciously followed. And that was that I was feeling like  was becoming more and more associated with VanderHuge Studios than me.
So, I had to start thinking about it. I've decided a few things about it- rules, I guess. First of all, it means me. It's my mark. It can be used in lieu of a signature, or even my name. It can be displayed like a coat of arms. It can be worn like a badge or medal. It can be used like a seal of approval. And so on and so on, along those lines.
Also, I've thought about it for a while, and I've decided to stop drawing well known, copyrighted, pop culture characters and references. Not because I'm afraid of repercussions (a bandwagon some people are jumping on), but, for lack of a better phrase, for self respect. Related: I've also decided to start another sketchbook. Or, more accurately, another collection of drawings. It looks like with emphasis on mythology- I know there are at least a few Greek gods I'd like to draw and at least eight Chinese gods. Probably some Norse too.
I've lately been thinking about the integrity in not relying on ©'d, ™'d, or ®'d properties.

Well, I'm through fiddling with the sites. Hopefully this design will last a while. I still have a few blogspot pages to fill in with type and stuff, but I think I'm mostly done with it. It went amazingly smooth. Using a fake blog to get all the coding right worked better than I imagined it would. Though, I'm sure something's wrong, somewhere and I'll catch it later. Also, I realized tonight that if I'm not going to renew a hosting service, I'm going to have to upload all the images to a free image hosting service. Not a big deal, but I'll have to burn a couple hours tracking down images and arduously hunting down and rewriting html links.

I drew the drawing on the side smaller than it should've been. I didn't want a normal sized drawing shrunk down so that any detail and line quality was lost. I kinda' actually enlarged a tiny bit, I think. So, with those parameters, I'm saying it's a win.

Here's the actual drawing by the drawing on the blog (and the process because I still had all of them)-

If the drawing wasn't so small, I would've fiddled with the tones more, but because the resolution had to be so small it wouldn't have been worth it. I can't tone something that small, I have to tone it larger, then shrink the tones- and in the process the tones get muddled and sort of hazy, especially tones on tones.

If anyone sees something that seems off, lemme know. I'm curious about different browsers because I only have two.

Redesign, again.

Yesterday, I spiraled into manic design frenzy. I accidentally spent a few hours tinkering with a new blogger layout. I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to renew my hosting service, just the domain name. The hosting service wasn't all that great. And I'm tired of that e-mail address anyway. I think only a few people got the joke. The only thing that sucks is that I'm gonna lose the address that everyone has. But, I guess I don't really care; no one ever seemed to remember it was myname@myname.com anyway. And, although I could have up to fifteen different e-mail accounts, the inboxes couldn't be larger than 25mb- that's right, 25mb was my e-mail limit. My new address is VanderHugeStudios(at)Gmail(dot)com.

And it's waaaay cheaper to just use blogger. I've been interested in the page function for a while and have been wanting to try to make an entire site with just blogger.

Instead of fudging this blog and making it erroneous for a time, I made a new blog and restricted it. Boy, it took a while to get a name that wasn't taken. I eventually settled on a cryptic VH-13. It seems a shame to not use it for something. I may when I'm finished with the redesign.

I kind of accidentally took too much of today fiddling with layouts and designs. The above picture is a place holder for an illustration I haven't drawn yet. (It will probably look something like that)

Part of the redesign was spurred by not being able to really tell what I do. I'm not too big on having a gallery, but I'm gonna need to buckle down and really make one. Even if it's just ten or fifteen drawings. And I'd like to have something that looks a little more professional less nonsensical than what I had.

I'm trying to make it a little more accessible understandable than the last few. I think I'm getting something I like. And something that won't wear off and I'll want to change it in a few months. I'm trying to straddle the line between something that functions, looks unique, and serves it's purpose.

More on this later? Who knows.

Also, buttons.

I found a good deal on buttons- it was almost cheaper to buy them than to not buy them. I don't expect to sell many, but I like having them. Also, I'm intermittently changing website stuff; trying to find what I like.

Drawing Table Tuesday

I'm taking extra time designing a room with a bunch of science equipment. I always liked when people took a  little extra time and made equipment look like it would actually work. Unfortunately, it's becoming more and more evident as I thumbnail these pages, that not as much of this room will be shown as this much designing would suggest.

I'm thinking about thinning some of the talking over two more additional pages so I can show more of the room. They were a little dialogue heavy anyway.

Drawing Table Tuesday

I noticed that I almost never take a picture of a finished thumbnail because after I finish I immediately turn the page and start the next one.

These were traces of thumbnails I taped off to the side for consistency. When I went to take a picture I noticed they were probably more interesting than what was on the paper at the time.

Drawing Table Tuesday

The whole page from yesterday. Way more notes than usual on this page. Mainly because I already see toning this is going to make my head hurt.

I liked this yesterday, so I took a picture of it. It also make a nice quality dichotomy with the last post.
